Rooted on the West Coast, Donakai Design brings together embodied local knowledge and a deep understanding of regional climates, ecologies, and histories to craft structures that harmonize with their environments. Building and designing spaces meant for living and creating — from tiny homes and modular dwellings to artist studios — Donakai combines form and function to ensure each space is appropriate for its location and inhabitants.
Our Challenge
For this ongoing collaboration, our goal is to create a visual narrative and identity that situates the building within its environment, bringing life and a distinct character to both the project and its surroundings. We aim to do justice to the beauty of the West Coast — its coastline, forests, fog, rain, and wildlife — and to show how these dwellings share their histories and inspirations with the natural world.
